Chapter 7
Warlord Susanowa
As I opened the chest, I couldn’t help but wonder what it was going to be. “Click”, I opened the lock and lifted the door of the chest to find a glowing necklace.
“It is known as the Soulbeads of the Superheavy Domain. The Warlord is looking for this item because its power can protect you from death. Also, you will find the ones whom you seek to bring justice to on the path of the flutist.” Said Merlin.
“Now be on your way Sylvan.” Said King Artorigus, the leader of the Noble Knights.
“Guards, show them the door.” They were kind enough to show us the way out, very abruptly.
“Those guys were welcoming.” Chris said, as Jacob laughed.
We left the castle, and headed towards the bamboo-covered hills. The view across the open desert at night, was breathtakingly beautiful. Above you could see the dark blue sky, and a full blood moon. The stars glistened with a silver glaze. There was a bluish green haze, like a stream in the air waving back and forth. It started to spread even wider and it opened up a vortex from another dimension. Lightning exploded from the center of the vortex in clusters. It was destroying everything it touched. Suddenly, it stopped. Out of nowhere, Aussie flew out over top of me face first, and the lightning vortex struck him in the air. He had taken the hit, saving me once again. We ran to him and the charred smell in the air. The smoke cleared. In a flash, he jumped up into the sky as fast as a lightning bolt.
“So that’s a Kurivolt.” Said Jacob.
He flew across the sky, zigzagging back and forward.
“That son of a gun.” I said in surprise. He had spelled “Thanks again” in lightning.
“Wow!” I yelled out.
And just like that, he was gone. The light returned to normal and the sky was clear once more. With a closer look at the waving haze, it seemed to be the Nordic Lights. I could see a tall figure outlined in the clouds with a long beard and a weird looking staff. Then the clouds and the lights shifted, and the figure was gone. Who knew what it was or who it was, but I knew one thing. Someone was watching our every move.
We came across a small pond that had a tree and a small cave beside it.
“We should rest here for tonight guys.” I said in exhaustion.
So we went to the cave and noticed a few torchlights coming from inside. They were leading deeper into the mouth of the hollow pathway. The cave had small puddles and stalactites everywhere. Little drops of water falling from the ceiling seemed to tap me on the shoulder. Suddenly, we hear a few voices. It sounded like children, but one of them definitely sounded older. We made our way closer to the conversation while trying to stay incognito. It was a classroom, but not just any classroom. It was a dragon’s school. The sign read as followed;
There was a Red-eyes Black Chick still halfway in his egg, and a baby Blue-eyes White Dragon sitting beside him. As the teacher spoke on about his lesson, those two continued to giggle and joke with each other.
“Quiet down back there boys! Connor quit goofing off! And Colton, when are you going to break out of that shell?” said the teacher.
“Mr. Thousand Dragon, please don’t tell our dads. We’ll listen we promise.” The boys said with their claws crossed behind their backs.
There were several other dragons, but I didn’t recognize them.
“Mr. Thousand Dragon?” Colton said while raising his claw.
“Yes my boy.” Replied the teacher.
“Why is the school called Baby Dragons’ School for Bay Dragons, if you’re old as bones?” Colton snickered.
“Well, because some doofus clock ran in here the day I opened this school, when I was a Baby Dragon, and tripped right into me. We instantly fused. I haven’t found a cure or a spell to un-fuse us. But I will keep searching until I find a way to get rid of that cape wearing goon. Oh look children, we have visitors.”
“We have been had!” I thought to myself.
“Let’s get out of here!” yelled Jacob.
“No need to be afraid my friends. We won’t bite. Come in and have a seat.”
The three of us smoothly grabbed a chair that was made of stone, and prepared ourselves for anything. Not being sure if we could trust these dragons, we literally sat on the edge of our seats.
“So tell us about yourselves. Where are you from?” Asked the teacher.
“Well, I’m from the Sylvan forest and these two are from the south.” I replied.
All of the sudden, there was a teeth rattling roar coming from outside the cave in the air. Then there was another one, but slightly different this time. It sounded a bit stronger than the other. One right after the other, Colton and Connor both said,
“That’s my dad! I have to go!”
“Ha. Bedtime!” said a much older Luster Dragon. He looked like he had failed this class quite a few times.
“Pipe down Austin!” said Thousand Dragon. “Do you want another week’s detention?”
“No sir!”
As Thousand Dragon continued his lesson, I took a look around. The room was as tidy as a cave could be. The old chalkboard behind the teacher and the writing in Draconic on the walls had puzzled me. In the corner near the entrance was a Lonefire Blossom plant. It started to speak to me,
“Go now Sylvan. It’s not safe here. Soon they will be here and they will take you, if they find you.”
“Thank you.” I said to the plant. “Guys, we need to go. Now.” I quietly said to the crew. They nodded and we all got up to leave.
“Is there possibly a back door to this place, Mr. Thousand Dragon?”
“Yes, through the back there.” He pointed towards the rear of the cave. “It leads to the ridge on top of our cave.”
“It was very nice to meet you all, but we have to get going.” I replied.
“Say goodbye children.”
“Goodbye Children!” they all shouted, and then laughed.
We hustled through the rear of the cave to find a hole just big enough to crawl through. We all made it out. As we peeked from atop the cave, Chris yanked Jacob and me to the ground.
“Get down!” Chris whispered. “I can hear someone coming.”
Across the desert plains, a rumbling of footsteps had floated through the air into our heightened senses. It seemed very fast and repetitive. We peered from the hiding spot to see a huge wolf covered in blue diamonds and large blue shards. The grey and red armor covering its hide looked almost indestructible. It was a Diamond Dire Wolf. I had seen pictures of them before in my hometown library, but it was a little different. It seemed bigger in person. I noticed someone was riding it. It was a chubby green goblin with very fancy clothes, and a big white collar made purely of ruffles, at least four inches thick. The wolf was pulling a cart full of goblin soldiers. They arrived at the cave entrance and the goblin leader from atop the wolf yelled,
“Filadle and raid on this little old cave!” He then started to speak very loudly to himself, “Maybe I can find some treasure, so I can raise my stockpile of pleasure! Hehehehehe!”
He was holding a big green pot with his face on the front. With a look of greed, he started to count his gold. “Roar!” A fire blast exploded from the mouth of the cave and shot an inferno through the hole we had just come through. The Goblins poured out of the cave, while one of them had his butt on fire. He was running so much faster than the others while yelping like a little Cruffssant. It was comical.
One of them screamed, “Dragon!” And they all scrambled to get back to the cart.
The leader kicked the wolf like a horse, and yelled, “Yah!” They jolted off towards the west.
“Hey guys, look they forgot one. Ha!” I yelled, as I pointed towards the goblin who was chasing after the cart, but it was way too fast for him. “Come on, let’s get out of here.”
We slid down the rock face on the other side of the ridge and started back on our way. The morning light shimmered across the vast desert. We were exhausted from a lack of sleep and starvation. Finally, the bottom of the Wall of Ivy was in our line of sight. Something was calling to me. I could hear a thousand whispers, all saying the same thing. It sounded as though the voices were being echoed from across the solid wall of plant life. I looked to my friends and said,
“Stay here you guys.” They shrugged their shoulders to each other in confusion, and sat upon the grass.
I walked along the front of the Wall of Ivy and noticed something further ahead. The wall was moving. The vines and branches were shifting. They formed a human-like monster that appeared as a woman, but it was completely made of plant life. She stuck her hand out to me, and an apple appeared from inside her palm.
“Partake of the fruit. I know you are hungry Sylvan.” She said in a seductive and alluring voice.
“No thank you.” I said as I looked up the wall.
About halfway up, I noticed a set of bones and above it a complete skeleton. There were several of them all ensnared on the front of the wall. Each one had their hand in front of their mouth, as if they had given in to the seduction and had taken a single bite. But that was more than enough. Sadly, they had sealed their fate because of it. I looked back to the figure made of roots and ivy. I stood my ground and said,
“No. I am Levi, ‘The Flowerknight’ from Sylvania. You will stop your tricks you succubus, and you will open the wall for me and my friends.”
The figure bowed and disappeared into the wall. The guys made their way to me and the wall opened up. We quickly went through without hesitation. After making it through the Wall of Ivy, it closed behind us with a sound of shuffling leaves and cracking tree branches. Immediately, we were surrounded by Superheavy soldiers. Two Big Benkei towered over us. A Trumpeteer sounded off. A few other Superheavy Samurai quickly appeared to ensure our capture. Engulfed in terror, I couldn’t move an inch. They lived on a series of hills covered with bamboo, which was inhabited by rare and exotic wildlife. Even though we had been captured by machines, It was pretty cool. Instantly I pulled out the Soulbeads and they stood down. One of the Benkei spoke in a mechanical voice,
“Right this way. The boss will be pleased.”
We strolled up a long stone staircase, with a brigade of robots following us. The entrance to this dojo was wide open. It had pillars of red and burnt orange holding up the ceiling. The doors that went all of the way around the sides and front of the dojo were made of wicker. Each one of them open for a cooling breeze to enter the room. The roof was covered in a dark red tile, which had accented every part of the building. In the back of the dojo sat the leader of the bunch, you know him well. Superheavy Samurai Warlord Susanowo.
“Proceeda to the uh... War-rord, prease.” The voice had come from a Kabuto, who was trying to stuff a Soulfire Suit into a Battleball’s mouth. I guess he thought it was a washing machine.
Anyways, I walked forward to the leader and pulled out the Soulbeads. He was eyeing me like I was a hardened criminal. The Warlord stood up from his chair.
“You have my Soulbeads. The last time I saw this necklace, the wizard Merlin had asked me to exchange it with him. He said when the time was right he would send someone to re-exchange the two items. That was around 300 years ago. I guess that time is now. Here, you will need this.” He handed me a mirror about the size of my head, but it was absolutely gorgeous. Purple and gold intertwined in spikes around the crystal mirror in the center. “Look for the one with two different colored eyes. A young boy.” Said the Warlord.
I gave him the Soulbeads before I turned to leave. Something wasn’t quite right. I noticed a smile on Jacobs face, as he readied his blades.
“You don’t remember us, do you ole Susie?” Said Jacob.
“Were back.” Said Chris.
Jacob jumped up to the Warlord, straight through the air. He rolled his blades several times over the Warlord, while Chris blasted him with his crystal powers. Nothing affected him. You would think he would have been a toasty filet by now, but they didn’t take into account that Susanowo was a defensive master. The Warlord held up the Soulbeads and smiled. Then Jacob said,
“Whoops…” and two Brawlers grabbed them, and lifted them above a Soulbang Cannon. The Warlord spoke out in anger,
“Blast them into their doom!”
“Wait!” I said. “What is going on here?”
“They took my Samurai Drum.” Replied the Warlord. “It has the power to bring my brother back from the grave.”
