Chapter 10

Chapter 10

The Heat of J.D.

I sucked in the cool air of the morning and rubbed my eyes.
Wow I feel better. What’s for breakfast Matt?”
“Biscuits and bacon.”
“That sounds great to me. I’m surprised I can even eat after last night’s dinner. I had no idea that you could even cook.”
Um, Levi. That was you…” As his face turned dull and sarcastic.
“Really? Well whoever did it, I’m impressed.” I said as I started gobbling down the food.
“You are something else Levi…” He was completely baffled.
I finished the last bite of my biscuit and began packing up. We smothered out the fire and picked up our feet. The travel time seemed to fly by when we talked about our homes and friends. Every time I looked to my feet, my not so lonely shadow had danced its way to a different position.
It was sometime in the evening when we reached the city. There were dozens of blimps flying overhead at different altitudes, each one with a T.V. in the center. Everyone was showing a different sport. Smack-dab in the center of the city was the biggest blimp of all. It had a sign that said, “U.A. City”. The crystal shards in the middle of the sign were glowing with several vibrant colors. They would repeatedly emanate different shades of blue, red, green, pink, and orange. The colors lit up every inch of the sign.
“Look at that Matt. I bet in the night, that blimp is beautiful.
“Dude. We should stay here tonight and check out the city. And the ladies.” I let out a howl, like a Diamond Dire Wolf to the third Crystal moon. “OOOOOOOOUUUUUUUWWWWWWWWWWWW!”
To the north was the temple we sought after. The city was a normal hustle and bustle type of place. Through the never-ending crowds and buildings, we could see the ivory pillars towering over the gate to the temple. A huge wall of pearl surrounded the Lightsworn Domain. In front of the gate sat a fountain with Gold and Silver linings, and the clearest water I had ever seen. My eyes caught the glimmer of the crystal clear water. My mouth started to water and my hands suddenly seemed dry. An insatiable urge arose in the deepest parts of my soul, to submerge my fingers in this essence of life. To cup the water in my hands and humbly greet my lips. That would complete my soul. My anger and vengeful thoughts wiped clean like the repenting, sinful soul finding forgivenessBy letting go of the pain and guilt, the wrong and hurtful things of life will be devoured by the God of eternity. He could free my soul of all wrong. Suddenly, the green life on the outside of the wall spoke to me of peace and harmony. I could tell this was a place of freedom and hope.
We came to the ivory gates in front of the Sacred Temple. There were two guards, one on each side of the great door.
“State your name.” They said in a very rough voice.
“My name is Levi and this is Matt.
“Hey, How ya doin there?” said Matt as he stuck his hand out to greet one of the guards, but the guard didn’t even blink
I noticed that one of them was holding a staff, just like the one that I had, but the other one was not. I looked at him and said,
“I think this is yours.” As I handed him the staff, he laughed in an “Ah Hah!” kind of way.
“Thank you. You have my gratitude and my friendship. What can I do you for?” as he shook my hand. Matt looked at the other guard who he was still trying to greet and said,
“Why you gotta be like that, huh? Your boy is friendly, but you got a bee in your bonnet. Man, if I had a rubber hose...”
“Excuse me. Matt, was it? That guard there has the mind of a hay penny. He can’t understand a word your saying.”
Haha! What a noob.” I said, but I forgot whom I was talking to.
What did you say Levi!”
“I said, ‘Haha! What a view.’” As I blocked the sun from my eyes and looked around.
Well I feel like a doofus.”
“Don’t worry about it Matt. It happens all the time.”
May Michael show favor upon you.”
The giant gates opened slowly, probably for dramatic effect. We walked through the doors and they started to close at least ten times as fast as they had opened. Matt and I jumped through quickly. Right before the doors closed, they stopped. Roger popped his head through the center and said,
Stinkin thing is jammed again Johnny! The door is stuck again!... What do you mean it wouldn’t be jammed if I didn’t try to shut it so fast?... Just help me get this thing working again, okay! Geez. Hey you two guys.” As he pointed at us, “Just don’t put your lips on anything okay?”
I heard a smack right after he said that and looked to my right. It was Justin. He was sticking out of the ground just enough so that he could smack his forehead and say, “wow…” and then he was gone.
Once inside the gate, we decided to look around. To the right there was a few Lightsworn people about, but it seemed to be only women. There was Jenis the Mender, Minerva the Maiden, Lyla the Sorceress, and Lumina the Summoner. They were standing around under an ivory roof on a marble patio. Beside a small fountain in the center of the road ahead stood Ehren the Monk, and Felis the Archer, who were having a little target practice by shooting an apple from the head of Shire the Spirit. Shire was floating in the air and sticking her tongue out to provoke them. Rinyan the Lightsworn Rogue was dipping its hand in the fountain. They all gave us a certain look like, “We know you’re living wrong and we are living right, but you should convert. To the left side of the sidewalk was where the men reside. There were a couple of Wulf standing around, as Garith the Warrior was sparring with Jain the Paladin. They had magnificent armor and looked super powerful. Raiden the Hand of the Lightsworn was pacing by the sparrers, as if he had called the next fight. He didn’t have as much armor and was shirtless for some reason, but he did have a killer set of abs. Anyways, we walked a little further as a Ryko jumped out of the bushes. He revealed his teeth and bent down to show his interest in where we were going. He was ready to attack. Two more jumped out of the bushes and started moving our way. Out of nowhere, a high-pitched whistle pierced our eardrums. Aurkus the Druid said,
Welcome outsiders. Please come with me. Do not worry about the Ryko. As long as I have the whistle, they will remain calm.”
”I see that coming back to bite us Matt.” I whispered.
We entered the Sanctuary inside the Temple. In front of us sat a tabernacle made of ivory, with little strands of gold running all over the surface as if it had been cracked and someone had welded it together with gold. It was breathtaking. I quivered with fear at the sight of the grey and white dragons perched on each side of the tabernacle. They had sharp red claws and beady red eyes. Even while the monsters were lying down, they seemed enormous. The tip of their noses were around three stories high
“Those are our Judgment Dragons.” Said the Druid.
“I’ve never seen anything like this. Matt, these things are colossal!”
There was a massive hole in the top of the cathedral, where the sunlight was shining through. Just then, another Judgment Dragon came flying into the sanctuary through the hole in the ceiling. However, this one dwarfed the two sitting on the ground. “This had to be Michael,” I thought after seeing the man riding the dragon. He had golden armor and beautiful wings. He sheathed his sword and dimmed the pure white light that was shining from it. The dragon touched down behind the tabernacle, with each foot rumbling the earth below.
“What can I do for you men?” Asked Michael
“I came to look upon the temple of the sacred ones. But I am curious about something.” I replied.
“Fire away. Sir…?”
“Levi.” I earnestly replied.
“Ah yes. Sir Levi.”
“A few friends of mine named Chris and Jacob, seemed to be so afraid of this place, but it seems so peaceful. Except for the Ryko.”
“You know the ones called Chris, and Jacob? The brothers?”
Yes I do. They traveled with me for a while. Anyways, I was wondering why they were so afraid.”
Out of nowhere, the Druid Aurkus said, “Seize them! They must be tried for their folly in being acquainted with the wanted.”
The two Judgment dragons stood up and let out a roar that would shake mountains. Together they rattled the very foundation of the building. Matt pulled out his sword and said,
“Levi, I’m going to have to banish the Druid. Stay behind me.”
I quickly jumped behind him with confidence and courage, but in my mind all I could think about was, “Meet me in the cluuub, its goin dooown!” Matt yelled out,
“Banish him!” and pointed his sword toward the Druid. A void opened up at his feet, and out came that hand. The evil laugh returned. It was haunting me still. It grabbed him with no hesitation and pulled him into the depths of banishment. The void then closed and the Druid was no more.
“Halt! Unless someone wants a triple dose of Judgment, no one will make another move! B.L.S. is that you?” said Michael.
“Yes” Matt said sternly.
I have heard of you, but had no idea that you were that powerful. I bet you could take on a Judgment Dragon alone. As for you Sylvan. I received a letter from Orea telling me of journey and of your cause. I respect you, and want to see justice as well. So I have a gift for you from the Lightsworn community.” He handed me a necklace. It had a golden strand with a tiny Judgment Dragon’s claw as the trinket attached. “When you need it, the young one will come. He is small and does not have experience, but is still very powerful.” He placed the necklace around my neck. “Now that the business is finished, B.L.S, I challenge you to a fight with my Judgment Dragon!”
“Its fine by me if you want to lose a pet.” Said Matt.
Me being the hype man that I usually am, yelled, “Ooooohhhh!”
