Chapter 13
The Rise of
The Burning Abyss
Dante unsheathed his sword and yelled, “Here they come!” The ground broke open in front of us, as a door appeared. It was incased in molten crust and flames, with a skull resting on its crown. The doorway creaked open. There was nothing but lava, molten rocks, and a field of flames. I could feel the evil pressure breathing through the door. The metallic red light from the door crept toward us. The ground began to crack and pulsate. Demonic hands began to rip through the crevices, pulling their bodies up from the depths. The very sight of the beings made me cringe. It was as if my worst nightmare had come true. The fiends coated in colors of black and burnt red, peered with their beady red eyes. Some of them had no eyes, but knew exactly where we were. They could smell the fear. Colton jumped into a bush, and Connor threw up on the chariot.
“Them claws are no joke fellas,” said Wildheart.
“They have massive wings sir,” replied Neos Alius
“And razor sharp teeth,” said Bladedge.
The rose brothers gnashed their teeth. The Heroes’ struck their fighting poses. I lifted my sword to the rising sun and yelled with all my might, “Charge!” The dragons took to the sky, as the rest of us ran directly onto the jagged battlefield. Each one of us barreled through every opponent in our path. When one was destroyed, another would rise. After defeating several waves of the enemy, we began to lose stamina. “I have to get in there!” said Dante. Black Rose Dragon glided atop the ground towards the Malebranche. He must have heard Dante, because he expanded his wings right in the center of our adversaries. Just then, Moonlight looked up. “My brother,” he paused, as his eyes widened, “No!” Rose Dragon spread out his wings sprouting stems of roses covered in thorns. Just like a tree that had been struck by lightning, he exploded. Every rose and thorn turned into a deadly projectile. All who had the chance, looked up to the explosion. In a split second, he shredded everything in range.
“NOOOO!” Moonlight roared.
“Moonlight. We cannot let him die in vain. We have to charge the door now, or we will lose the advantage. Your brother just claimed the victory for us.”
“But at what cost…?” said Moonlight. His eyes began to grieve.
The battlefield was wide open. Dante bolted for the door. He made it to the steps as the next set of Burning Abyss monsters crawled through the cracks. “Hurry! You don’t have much time!” I yelled out. He turned around, just for a second, saluted me, and then continued through the door. Moonlight broke out into a rage. He picked up one of the monsters and bit it clean in half. He then opened his mouth and started gathering light particles. He extended his neck, and opened his mouth even wider. The light had finished gathering. With a burst of extreme power and the focal point of a laser, he laid a stream of destruction upon the earth. With one swift motion, from east to west, he cleared the entire field. Nothing was left but ash. “Die!” he roared. A single teardrop came from his eye, slowly down his cheek.
The heroes’ quickly jumped into action. Bubbleman and Clayman looked to each other and nodded. A magnificent fist bump led to their fusion. The fortress like, Mudballman! He was known to be extremely solid. His mud based attacks, which were driven by bubbles and clay, were used to disorientate and trap their enemies. This was a deadly combo. Mudballman stuck out his hands. More of the Malebranche appeared by the door. Through the air like a torrent, mud bubbles started to gush from his hands. They hovered through the air, but didn’t pop. He moved one hand in a specific pattern, and the mud bubbles scattered all around the field. The fiends were surrounded by a floating minefield. The barrage of the doomed took to the air, screeching as if they were being tortured.
“Oh great... Wimpy bubbles. We’re saved,” Battlestorm sarcastically remarked.
“They can’t see the mud bubbles, can they?” I said.
“Nope. His bubbles have the power to reflect light particles. So on the other side, they see only us,” replied Sparkman, “It’s genius.”
One by one the monsters smacked into the invisible bubbles. Each one popped with a compound, splattering Malebranche, and the ground. Some of the demons stepped into the mud, but found themselves trapped like flies. They couldn’t move an inch. I looked back to check on who was left in our army. Most of the crew was tuckered out, but fine. Black Rose Dragon was the only casualty. I soon realized that Austin had disappeared right before the battle. I began to ask around, but no one had seen him. I heard a commotion and sprang towards the sound. Burstinitrix fist bumped Avian and fused with him. I was starting to feel jealous, until I saw what they had become. I couldn’t even blink for being so shocked. The amazing, Flamed Wingman. He shot to the sky above the muddy prison. He crossed his hands and pointed them below. A blazing inferno covered every ounce of mud on the field, drying every molecule of water, and solidifying the clay. The steam settled, and the monsters survived as statues. Behind the gargoyles, Dante came running through the door with a woman on his arm and an army of Malebranche behind him.
“Shut the door!” he said.
“Quick!” I replied, as I pointed to the fusions.
Both fusions jumped to the door and slammed it behind Dante and the girl. Lava sealed the entrance and the earth began to swallow the door slowly. “Look out!” I yelled. For behind the lowering door was the Ojama trio, in Delta Hurricane position. They were ready to fire. From a crack in the ground in front of the trio, Justin pulled himself up and said, “Hey guys. Just let me handle them. I got this.” The blast was let loose right into Justin’s chest. He pointed one finger to a bush beside the trio and the hurricane instantly redirected. The bush was ripped to shreds. And what do you know, Matt was in that bush. He had a death grip on his sword, which was stuck in the ground. He hung on for his life as the blast whipped him around like a toy. His sword lost its grip on the terrain and he flew into the air. “Looks like I’m blasting off again!” his voice slowly faded until he disappeared with a twinkle in the sky. The Ojamas stopped and broke formation. Before they could go anywhere, Santa opened his red sack of mysteries and three chains flew out towards the trio. They were completely confined. Almost frozen.
“Wow! That is one ‘Fiendish’ chain. Hahaha!” said the Goblindburgh as he did a barrel roll.
Finally, the Ojamas were in our clutches. Justice was at the doorstep of oppression, and was about to knock it down with the fist of righteousness and the boot of butt kicking! First, I had to find their king.
“The plan is to bring the king to the High Council for judgement, as soon as possible. Everyone understand?” I said.
“Oh, Crap!” Justin said. “Matt is gonna kill me!” He immediately turned around, and began running backwards.
“Why are you running backwards bro?” I said with a chuckle.
“So I can see Matt coming up behind me!”
“Smack!” The Diamond Dire Wolf, from a few days back, jumped out from behind a giant bolder and stopped him in his tracks.
“MATT IM SO SORRY! I DIDN’T KNOW THAT YOU… Phew. I thought you were Matt. Haha. Bout had a heart attack.” Justin said as he leaned against the boulder in relief.
The wolf was pulling the same cart full of goblins. From atop wolf’s back, the Goblin Leader yelled, “Grab that guy! And take his GOLD!” as he pointed to Justin. The goblin squad jumped out of the cart and proceeded to grab him. They quickly captured him. The leader looked up, saw Austin in the sky, and yelled, “Retreat!” The troop scrambled to get back in the cart, while their leader kicked the wolf like a horse. “Yaaah!” Yet again, the one goblin was too slow, and had to chase the cart down. Our whole group laughed, as Justin snuck away through the dirt floor.
The Synchrons busted loose and began Synchro’ing with each other. Clanking metal and welding sparks surrounded our senses. Each machine let out a mechanical roar upon completion. Accel Synchron, Formula Synchron, and many others towered the heroes who had once controlled them. There was a moment’s pause. The area seemed to be frozen in time. I blinked, and Austin let out a beam of energy that engulfed all of the Synchrons at once. All that remained was a few batteries with little faces on the front.
“I turned them into their baby forms.” Said Austin. Apparently, he could do anything he wanted with his new power. I quickly logged that info into my journal.
“Show me your moves?” said Battlestorm.
“Nah, bro,” replied Austin.
“Dagnabit,” said Battlestorm as he snapped his fingers.
“Time to finish this.” I said.
I walked towards the king’s house, each step with determination. I knew my journey was almost finished.
“What do we do now? Do we just go home?” I heard someone from the army say.
“I guess. Pizza at my place?” said one of the lower level heroes. I then heard him quietly say to Alius, “One pizza, that’s all I’m buying. Everyone takes a bite, and then passes it on. Bite and pass. Understand?”
“Yes sir,” said Alius.
“How cheap.” I thought as I laughed.
I climbed the hill to the Kings place. Finally, I had made it. I reach for the door handle. It swings open. A dozen Ojama knights stand guard at the entrance. I realize I am all alone.
