Chapter 12
The Nightfall
Of Destiny
“His wingspan is incredible.” Matt yelled over the wind.
“I know. I think I will name him J.D.” I replied.
“Oh, that’s real creative Levi.”
J. D. flew into the Jetstream above us. I pulled an apple from my bag, and cut it into small pieces.
“Here you go Matt.”
“Thanks. Falling right out of the sky like that really made me hungry.”
“No problem bro. And here is one for you J. D.” He nearly took my fingers off with his bite, but I could tell he meant no harm towards me. He licked his lips, and let out a playful yelp.
“Matt.”
“Yeah Levi?”
“I haven’t worked out all the details, but I have a plan that might work.”
“Let’s hear it.”
“Let’s go right into the main entrance. They will be very surprised, considering we have a Judgment Dragon as a pet.”
“What if they are expecting us, and it’s a trap?”
“Then may the gods of Yu-Gi-Oh have mercy upon us.”
I went through my belongings for a quick inventory of everything. I had the Harpie’s Feather Duster, the J.D. summoning necklace, and my journal. Then, I pulled all the letters out from the front pocket and began to sift through them.
“I almost forgot about Merlin.” I held the up the letter and yelled out his name.
The strong voice of the wizard echoed through the air,
“I am here my boy. What doest thou need?”
“We are about to come upon the Ojama country, and I need some help.”
He lowered his voice, and spoke with such peace, “Levi, my son. When bad things happen, I know we want to believe they are a joke, but sometimes life is scary and dark. That is why we must find the light. Your heart may be small, but it is strong. Hold tight to the light and all will be well.”
I could feel a fire inside, warming my soul with courage.
“Thanks old man. Do you think you could send the knights to back us up?”
“Oh, so that’s why you called me. Why didn’t you just say so in the first place?
Making me waste my good wisdom. I have half a mind to come down there and teach you a lesson.”
“I’m sorry gramps. I didn’t mean to offend you.”
“I don’t have time for this. You millenniums think you know everything, but you don’t! On the other hand, I cannot just leave you to fend for yourself. I will send the knights to aid thou. Goodbye ya ungrateful…” Matt closed the letter, hanging up the call.
“Good thinking Matt.”
“That guy woke up on the wrong side of the cauldron.”
Flying through a cloudy sky in the middle of the night was refreshing. I opened my mouth to see what clouds tasted like, and got a mouth full of fresh water. I immediately heard something mutter, and looked behind me. It was a Cloudian. My stomach turned when I saw the head-shaped hole that went clean through his butt. I stuck my sleeve in my mouth and started scrubbing my tongue. After throwing up multiple times and crying repeatedly, I decided to land in a small clearing below. Matt perched himself on a rock and began meditating. Little orbs of light from the hilt of his sword poured into his chest. After a while, they stopped. His eyes opened and he readied his sword.
“What’s going on? Is there an enemy nearby?”
“Nope.” Matt lunged his hand into the ground, and pulled out a clump of decaying flesh, “Just a noob.”
“More like, just a Justin.”
“Hey guys. Whats up? Long time no see,” said Justin as he slowly spun around in Matt’s grip.
“Hey Justin. What have you been up to?” I replied.
“Oh, not much. Just living the life.”
“Why were you following us?” said Matt.
“Well you see. I was just passing by. Nothing really intended,” replied Justin.
“Mmm-hmm. I believe you. But my banishment don’t!”
“You gotta believe me Matty. I’m over the moon for you. If my honesty was a field, Levi would have to take two J.D.s to get over it.”
“Maybe I’m off my hinges, but I believe you. That’s why I’m gonna let you go.”
“Thank the Lord.” Just said as he wiped the sweat from his brow.
Matt let go of him, and pointed his sword to the ground below.
“Im gonna give you to the count of three. To get your lousy, lyin, no good keister out of my sight. Before I feed your guts to Fred.”
“Who’s Fred?” Justin asked.
“One…” Justin scrambled to get up. “Two…” He bolted towards the woods. “Banish him!”
The too familiar void opened from the depths of nothingness, and the hand jumped out at Justin. It barely missed him, on account of him running so stinking fast.
“Looks like the noob lives another day.” Said Matt.
I looked at him and laughed.
“You were never going to banish him.” I said.
“Nope. I just wanted to mess with him. Haha.”
J. D. finished drinking some water, then we were ready to continue. I mounted my steed, but noticed Matt’s hesitation.
“Are you okay Matt?”
“Levi. This is where I leave you.”
“Wait. Why? I need you with me Matt. I don’t think I can do this without you.”
“But you are not alone Levi. We are bros for life. I will always be with you.” He smiled, and then dove into the jungle.
Fear struck into my soul. I was so nervous. My hands began to tremble. I patted J. D. on the neck and we ascended into the sky above. The words of Merlin entered my mind once more. “Hold tight to the light and all will be well.” I was terrified, but those words alone strengthened me.
“Whizz!” A missile with a mischievous face flew right past my head. Now I was more alert. An army of missiles was heading our way. Each one had a different emotional look on their face. It was a Full Salvo.
“Quick J. D.. Dodge them!”
He flipped into evasive maneuvers and dodged a few rockets, but they were following us. We could not shake them. We popped out of a defensive spiral and into a Pugachev's Cobra. At the very end of the maneuver, all of the rockets had spread out. They had us surrounded. There was no way we could dodge all of them this time. Just then, Austin came flying through on a rainbow. Even though it was the middle of the night, it lit up the sky with vibrant radiance. “How bizarre.” I thought. He smacked right into the closest missile. “Bam!” A huge explosion occurred. I knew better than to think he was dead. Immediately, he flew out of the smoke towards the next missile. I quickly opened my journal and turned to the Kuriboh section. He had went from a Rainbow Kuriboh, to a Junkuriboh. This form looked like it was made of the spare parts from the destroyed missile. He then smacked into a missile with an eye patch, and emerged a Kuribandit. He pulled his knife and jumped on the next one. “Boom!” Out like a bullet from a gun, a Kuriphoton appeared! He split the next rocket down the center, and became Kuribon. As he came to the last few missiles, he quickly bounced off each explosion in a new form. My eyes caught a glimpse of Austin once more. He was flying towards the last missile, as a Sphere Mode Kuriboh. The final explosion was intense. The smoke cleared and Austin was floating. This time, Austin looked like a Winged Kuriboh with red armor. I knew what this was! The Winged Kuriboh Lv9. I thought it was merely a legend, but this legend didn’t last long. A much bigger missile shot out from the ground and went right for Austin. He leaned into it, as it busted into his body. The smoke cleared quickly. The night sky lit up as if a new star had been born. After a moment, the light dimmed, but it was still there. The feint glow was just enough to see Austin. He was magnificent. A Winged Kuriboh Lv10.
“Come now Levi. Let’s go get ‘em.”
“Full speed ahead!” I yelled out.
After a couple of minutes of flying at full speed, we landed at the edge of the Ojama’s village. From the east, several dragons had appeared. At the head of the group was Thousand Dragon on a chariot. Colton, Connor, and two other baby dragons that looked a lot younger were pulling the chariot. A few of the other dragons had followed their fearless teacher as well. As I watched the cluster of dragons flying my way, I noticed a few specks a little to the south of them. In addition, a cloud of dust below the specks on the ground was visible. I could identify what the beings were, as they got closer. There was a Goblindbergh doing barrel rolls in the air, and a Battlestorm behind him, saying, “Show me your moves!”
Beside the Battlestorm, was the infamous Santa Claws. In a very menacing voice, I could hear Santa saying, “Do a barrel roll!” To the east were the Black Rose brothers. The oldest, Rose Moonlight, and the younger, Rose Dragon, seemed to be such a wicked combo. At the face of the dust cloud, I could see the Synchrons. “Hold on a sec.” I said while squinting towards the cloud. It was the Elemental Heroes’. They were riding the Synchrons, as if they had enslaved the convoy. A shot of adrenaline shot through my body. I knew Burstinatrix was coming to help. I could see her riding the Synchron in the front, striking a pose with the other four of her group. On one of the other Synchrons sat Bladedge. He was polishing his armor, as the hero in training, Neos Alius, practiced his punches in the air. Behind that Synchron was a smaller machine. Shadow Mist and Wildheart were controlling it. They appeared to be missing a few from their hero clan, but that was okay. I couldn’t help but think that we had too much help, and that this was going to be way too easy.
The ground was cold like a sheet of glass on top of a frozen tundra. As each monster landed on the dirt floor in front of the Ojamas homeland, the silence set in.
“My friends, I thank you for helping me with my cause. For justice to be served and for a reign of peace over this great land, we must defeat the Ojamas!”
“YEAH!”
“WOOOOH!”
“YOU ARE THE MAN!”
“LET’S GET ‘EM!”
“With the small army we have here, we will storm into their land and capture the king. Knowing what havoc the Ojamas can wreak upon all things good, I believe they might have a few tricks up their sleeves. So everyone, please be on your toes and wait for a signal. Then, we will make our move.”
“What’s the signal?” asked Colton.
“You will know when you see it.” I replied
“That’s cool and all, but wouldn’t it be better if we all just knew the signal now, so we would be 100% sure of when to make a move?” said Connor.
“Yeah. What he said.” Said Colt.
“You two shut up!” said Thousand Dragon. “Let our fearless leader lead us.”
“Who made you the leader, pipsqueak?” said Moonlight. His deep dragon voice was assertive. “You’re no bigger than my breakfast this morning. I could just gobble you up.”
We locked eyes. Neither one budging an inch. He was so close to my face, I could smell his rose pedal breath. Without hesitation, I drew my sword and pushed his head back with my blade. I could see my reflection in his glassy eyes.
“You would do well to know who I am, Dragon.”
He snarled at me and cocked his head back.
“Watch out for his tail!” said Colton.
He lunged at me like a snake in the grass. But I was too quick. I blocked the first strike with my sword. It made him even angrier. He swung his tail around with great force, but I quickly jumped to avoid it. When I landed, I noticed a voice coming from a tree sprout on the ground below. “Speak with power and authority.”
“Stop!” I said, as I lifted my blade towards his face.
“I can’t move! What did you do to me?!”
His whole body was constricted in a web of roots. They were thin, but very strong. I stuck my sword into the ground, and released the hold.
“Moonlight. I don’t want to be your leader. I’m just like anyone here. I only want to see the Ojamas go down.”
“I’m sorry my brother. I acted upon my anger. For that, I have sinned.” He bowed his head in respect to me. I looked around to see that everyone was doing the same. “For sparing my life, I owe you a debt of gratitude. In the Dragon’s Domain, you will forever be known as ‘Drak Vládce’. The Dragon Ruler.”
“Wow. That sounds amazing. I truly am honored. And don’t worry about the whole debt of gratitude thing. Just help me beat the Ojamas, and we’re even.”
The troop prepared themselves for battle, as I filled them in on my plan. We were going to Hail Mary right to the center of town. We stood in formation, taking cover in front of the village. From the south sky came a Fortune Tune. You guessed it. It was Link. He didn’t land or drop a letter, he just delivered a young man and then flew away. He turned his head towards me and nodded. I waved to show my sarcastic thanks. I looked over to the man and said,
“Hey. Who are you?”
He looked up, smiled and said, “I’m the traveler Dante.”
Like a semi on icy roads, it hit me. This was the famous Dante who traveled the Burning Abyss.
“This is awesome! But what are you doing here?”
